Comments
Lots of explorations today as the focus was the overall coverage and depth of the snowpack. Below about 8,000' the rain and temperature crusts are quite evident underneath the 5-10 cms of snow from this past Saturday. As you approach 8,500', the crust diminishes and the snowpack is still supportable with dense wind slabs underneath the recent snow.
HS (height of snow) is 45-60 cms at lower elevations, 90 cms at 8,500', with higher amounts above 8,500'. As you get above 8,000, the slab is strong, 1F hard with the bottom 10-15 cms loose, dry facets.
The weakest snow is the top 5-10 cms which consists of weak near-surface facets and some surface hoar. Easy to initiate sluffing on steeper aspects. Not a problem for now and the facets/loud powder is preserving decent conditions.
