We traveled up to Powder Park 1 area. During the ascent to the final ridgeline we heard woomphing so we decided to do a quick compression test. After cutting the side and back of the column with a snow saw, I took my cord to further isolate the column. As I neared the ground with the cord, the column fractured and propagated fully, sliding out in a block. Total snow depth was 90 cm; the block of snow fractured and propagated at 50 cm (from the ground) and there was another weak layer with a 2 cm crust at 30cm.
Observation was on a N aspect, ~9300 ft, about 60 feet from the ridgeline in an open meadow area on a ~15 degree slope. This observation was taken at 11am; skies were cloudy with light snow at 11am, wind from the east.
