Snow Characteristics Comments
Generally low snow coverage in the Hell's Canyon zone. Low elevations are generally dry, the mid-elevation northerly facing aspects are holding 2-3" of loose faceted snow with a thick layer of rimed surface hoar on top, and the mid-elevation solars are dry. As the elevation increases, the snowpack depth increases as well. Generally weak throughout.
General snowpack depth at 7600' in Hell's Canyon.
Surface hoar grains, widespread.
Rimed surface hoar texture, wide spread throughout the entire region and all elevations.
Comments
The primary focus of the day was to get an idea of coverage for the Hell's Canyon, and Ogden area mountains. Surprised by the generally low coverage. At the upper elevations, coverage improves with snow depths being closer to 12".
