The entire pack is weak snow. Layers of faceted snow from previous storms complete with a few buried surface hoar layers. Surface snow is weakening rapidly with clear cold nights.

The upper layers are very loose and sugary since the shallow snow is subjected to quite a temperature gradient with air temperatures in the single digits.
There are some cool surface hoar crystals forming on the lake ice.
