Wind Drifted Snow

Increasing Danger
Problem #1 Comments
Ski cut produced a 40' wide wind slab avalanche. Broke at my feet. Crown was 6-8". Ran 1/3 of the slope and did not step down into any deeper layers. We were certain there was a wind slab there with the light density snow and winds overnight. Rest of the slope was stable. With continued ridge top winds I expect the problem to persist and perhaps increase. Strong sun is rapidly warming the north facing slopes at 10:30 am.
