I checked out the Wellsvilles this morning expecting major avalanche activity after yesterday's storm and wind. There is evidence of a lot of point release (cornice fall) dry sluffs and some small shallow slabs. However I did not notice a major avalanche cycle like I was expecting. There appeared to be a larger slab about 6-800 feet from the peak of the Wellsville Cone on the east face. The crown was a bit older but looked significant. There were a few smaller slabs under some of the cornice falls, they appeared to be less than 50 feet wide and probably less than a food deep. Some of these dry sluffs and small slabs appeared to have run up to 1000 vertical. I also notice a lot of dry sluff activity at mid elevations, most likely triggered by snow falling from tress.
Below are a few pictures from my office, 11 miles away to the NNE. I am not sure what the conditions looked like from straight east or further to the south.
