Snow Characteristics Comments
Super light, fluffy snow earlier in the day. Stayed this way in sheltered locations. Very low density, a bit slick on the skin track with easy shearing. The turns were full-on dreamy in protected areas.
On south facing at 9,500' the snow was damp by 2 P.M. It will certainly have a crust in the morning. There was a slight crust on southeast facing 8,900' at 3 P.M. By 4 P.M. that same 8,900' southeast crust had thickened enough to be really grabby while traversing.
Red Flags
Red Flags Comments
Jumped onto several small sections steeper than 30 on north facing at 9,500'. The snow was well behaved. No observed cracking, sloughing or whumphing today. Average depth in that area was about 170-180 cm.
Photo shows south-facing snow clinging to the pole at 2 P.M. Damp, and will likely produce an unpleasant crust Sunday morning on the most open south-facing slopes.
