Travels today took us to the UFO Bowls of Timp. With good vis initially, upon approaching the bottom of the northmost bowl, a pair of crownlines were visible at the top lookers left. After ascending to the top of the northmost bowl, it became apparent that one of the crownlines extended the width of the bowl, appeared to be old, and filled back in with new snow (attached is a photo of a small section of the crown, but we saw the same crown the entire width of the bowl). We did a retreat to avoid a repeat. We skied down the shoulder of the bowl. Stellar flakes, stellar riding! We noticed undulating debris extending the length of the runout zone (attached is a photo that doesn't help much. But the debris seemed to extend the width of the photo and all the way to the trees). We dug. Briefly. In our pit, we found avalanche debris underneath, on average, one meter of snow. Oh, the repeater time machine! So, given all of the clues we saw. I'd estimate the avalanche ran during the Jan 4th cycle on faceted November snow. It's loaded and ready again, but who knows if it will slide. We'd call it R4D3.
