Weather Comments
Colder at the trailhead (6000ft) this morning, 15F at 0700. Wind was mostly quite calm for my short tour this morning until the snow started. However, wind has clearly been at play since the last snowfall. There were several places with numerous twigs and small branches downed on the surface. Light riming was also present on E facing trees, rocks, exposed surfaces. Cloud ceiling lowered and light snow began around 0800, accompanied by light wind out of the SE, with a bit of accumulation having occurred by 0900.

Snow Characteristics Comments
Snow surface was still generally soft, but of varying density. In protected terrain, it was still nice powder. In more exposed locations, it was a bit denser, with 1-10cm of wind skin/slab on top depending on the particular spot. However, aside from the most exposed ridgeline locations, the wind slab was about 4F (1F/1F+ at the ridgeline). 30-60cm of storm snow sits on top of a rain crust <7200ft or so that preceded the January 14/15 snow; rain crust depth varies with increasing elevation (deeper) and exposure (shallower). Snowpack depth ~1.5m at 6000ft, ~2.1m at 7000ft.

Red Flags Comments
Noted some relatively short running D1 wet loose avalanches on southerly aspects; suspect this was from solar effects during Wednesday's clear skies. Northerly aspects featured some human-triggered dry loose sluffing in the steeper terrain, but generally good bonding with underlying snowpack.
