Problem
Persistent Weak Layer
Problem #1 Comments
Buried weak layer exists at 7600 ft N/NE slope in Salt Lake/Morgan County border area up East Canyon just off GWT south of Big Mountain Pass.
Found a 10 CM facet layer 30-35 CM off ground. Total pack depth 100 CM. If you jump hard on one ski you can punch through a crust to it, but no shooting cracks. Area was sheltered from wind with no cornice as on as some northerly exposed slopes in area.
Comments
Took SR-65 from reservoir up to Big Mountain Summit pass to see what snow was like on northerly slopes. Sunny slopes in area don't have much snow. Few people in this area save for skate skiers on road. Buried weak layer may pose problems for some visiting Lookout Peak or another desitnation in area when more snow falls and it looks like rocks/brush are hidden. Frost on top of all snow in pass area also.
