Beautiful day out, when we began around 11 AM skies were broken to scattered. Throughout the day the clouds dissipated, and it turned into a primarily sunny day with temperatures in the mid to upper 20s F. Winds were primarily light, with a few moderate gusts transporting snow along ridgelines.

Comments
Headed out for a tour from Tony Grove up towards White Pine Knob and out Bunchgrass. The weather remained pleasant throughout the day, and visibility allowed us to see areas that had recent avalanches both further on the tour and along the roadside while being towed in, you can find more details on what we saw getting towed in HERE. Throughout the tour, there were obvious signs of instability and overall poor snowpack structure. On any slope or meadow where we were breaking trail, there would be loud audible collapses and notable cracking in lower elevation terrain.
We stuck our shovels in the snow on both south and north-facing aspects. We first dug on a South facing aspect at 8876' off White Pine Knob. Where we dug had obvious signs of wind effect, and was actively transporting a small amount of snow so the overall snow depth was shallow, approx 55cm. On that southern aspect, we were able to find two obvious crusts beneath the new snow, holding the weakest snow between the two crusts. While we were unable to get full propagation within this pit we were able to get a collapse that propagated approx 80cm across the pit before arresting.
Snow Pit Profiles.
We dug on a North aspect at 8798' off Chicken hill. While we found the obvious weak snow directly below the new snow, we were unable to get results in the pit because the slope had already collapsed due to recent skiers. Overall the weak snowpack structure was found on almost all aspects, and the audible collapsing and shooting cracks let us it's still reactive.
Photos of shooting cracks both off the front of the ski tips and on both sides as walking through meadows.
