Snow Characteristics Comments
I noted two different layering patterns while out today: 1) on protected and shady slopes, there seemed to be a bit more snow and was composed of mixed forms (0.3-0.5mm) and decomposing fragments (0.5-1mm) in the old snow (F+), with the new fluffy snow on top (F). 2) On solar and exposed aspects, there was a variable crust that ranged from 1cm thick and pen hardness to 1 inch thick and 1F hardness. Below the crust was the similar mixed and decomposing forms with new snow on top.
