Avalanche Problem #1
Problem
Persistent Weak Layer
Trend
Same
Problem #1 Comments
The snow pack just does not seem like a March snow pack with dry weak sugary facets just under the new snow we received recently. Some riders I have visited with commented on how the snow conditions do not feel like March with not a lot of supportability under the their track on some slopes.
Comments
The weak sugary faceted snow that developed in January and February that is now buried under the new snow is quite reactive. With just a few taps from the wrist a column of snow easily fractures on the weak snow and I take this to mean the snow pack is unstable and likely to produce avalanches.
