Well the snow up Nebo was excellent for riding conditions! Unfortunately the avalanche danger is definitely elevated currently with about a foot of new snow on top of surface facets that formed in January and through most of February. We did a shear test and ECT, the results were concerning on both with shearing deeper then expected ( about mid old snow pack) and on the ECT test the new snow slab failed at a 4 with a full depth failure at 30. We located 3 natural slides through the day and witnessed several events of fracturing on lower angle terrain. We kept off and out from under slopes 30° or greater. Unfortunately there were several groups pushing their luck on consequential terrain and not paying attention to the obvious signs around them. The snow is awesome right now and it's hard to reign back, but please be safe! Mind your slopes and aspects on the North side of the Compass. Definitely roulette snow right now with test results showing multiple areas of concern but definitely mostly focused on the new snow slab on surface facets. Which with storms in the forecast those now buried surface facets will likely still pose a threat in the coming weeks.
