Comments
The wind has been at work in the southern portions of the zone as well. Many of the S-SW aspects had been completely scoured near the ridgeline and impressive Sastrugi predominated in the areas where the snow had held on. We found hard crusts on the SE aspects. The N-E aspects have prevalent stiff wind slabs. However, we did find pleasant skiing in the trees on these aspects and surprisingly, did not find any crusts within the upper layers of the snow pack. We did not experience any cracking or collapsing, but gave wide birth to the leeward sides of the ridge where significant slabs and cornices had formed. We did not see any avalanches.
