Comments
We stopped to dig a hand pit at the top of the Kessler Slabs, at 9430 ft. New snow is loose and shows some faceting. We noticed two distinct crust layers, one about 10 cm below the surface, and another about 20cm down, with loose, old near surface facets evident below. An avalanche from several days ago (before recent snowfall) is visible in the same location (separate report). We saw no other signs of instability, but these layers might be worth watching with the next storm cycle.
