After a hand shear failed on isolation, I decided to dig a quick test pit which yielded the following results: CT 10 SP, ECTP 15. Both failures occurred on what appeared to be a layer of small grain near-surface facets buried approximately 35cm below the snow surface. The slab was varying hardness from the fist hard recrystallized surface snow trending down to 1 finger above the weak layer, and varying thickness due to wind effect. Average height of snow for the area was over 300cm, taken from various points both on and off the terrain feature where the I dug the test pit. These reactive test results are something I will be taking into consideration given the length of time since any significant loading event. Observations on similar aspects revealed this was most likely a semi-isolated(to this terrain feature) avalanche problem, however I am almost certain it exists somewhere else on similar terrain features at this elevation.
Outside of this thought-provoking test result, we observed widespread wind effect on almost every aspect, along with sun affect anywhere that gets sun, as you would expect with such a long high-pressure period. Near surface facets developing on the top of the snowpack on shaded aspects, as well as above crusts on some solar aspects, will be something to watch whenever the next storm does roll in.
