Comments
Went up Miller Hill from the South, found about 2-3" new snow on top of a breakable crust. New snow didn't seem very well bonded with the crust. Found new small soft wind slabs up to around a foot deep or so on the East ridge around 9k' elevation and up. Saw debris from a recent (last few days, but not overnight) avalanche in an East facing steep slope at around 9,800' that was size D2. Likely natural wind slab, didn't appear to be to the ground.
Upper elevation South facing was starting to get slightly damp by 2pm, below 9,000' South facing was wet and natural wet loose avalanches were happening on our exit. Mid-Lower elevation steep southerly will likely have a firm crust tomorrow.
Skies were clear and sunny till 1 or so, then clouded up afterwards with a few snowflakes, which likely kept the upper elevation S facing from developing a new crust. WNW light winds picked up when the clouds showed up.
HS ranged from 100cm-170cm in terrain traveled, did not find old snow at the bottom when probing along travels and in a quick hole dug around 9,600'. Snowpack there was 140cm, 1 finger to pencil hardness, small wet 1 finger hardness grains at the bottom, no tests performed.
