Comments
We went for a morning ride to ski in Mill Hollow, lucky enough they groomed the trail so travel was fast. When we arrived at our zone it reminded me of a warmer late season day, but was just the calm before the storm. While approaching our objective we noted a fairly consistent snow pack depth of around 4 feet. The surface has settled with sizable settlement cones at the bases of small trees.
We dug a put around 9600' on a due east facing slope. I was pretty impressed to see a stable, right side up snowpack! It looked like something you might find in March, there were some remnants of older snow at the base but it was not consistent and the old facets showed rounding. We knew however that all the snow had melted from this slope from the early season snow. It is still a different picture on colder, more northerly slopes.
Skiing and riding conditions where excellent. I would bet that after the incoming storm snow settles out, slopes with similar attributes will remain good go to zones.
