Poor Snowpack Structure
Red Flags Comments
Few obvious red flags. Poor snow structure only exists only on high north facing slopes. Blown-in evidence of one large natural avalanche from during the Holiday storm cycle was visible on the Nose of Cornice Ridge.
Comments
I had a good look at the Central Bear River Range from White Pine Knob and did not see any fresh avalanches. Lots of people were out riding over the New Years weekend and most avoided steep north facing terrain. But, I saw some tracks from riders who tested suspect steep northerly facing slopes and luckily did not trigger avalanches.
We stayed in lower angled and sunny terrain, and I did not find any buried old weak snow from December in my test pits. I did not venture into north facing terrain though.
