Comments
On our way up Georges the winds were really starting to pick up and transport snow. We dug a pit at 9900 so I could show an out of town friend what our snowpack looks like, no surprises, the slab failed on the old storm snow/facets layer, although in our pit there was a very thin crust on top of the facets. We observed some wind slab forming closer to the ridge, small and thin but I am sure growing.
In our pit we had an ECTP12 on the slab with it fracturing cleanly and sliding off with light pressure from the shovel. We were on a 25 degree slope. There were several crusts in the facet layer, the old snow on top is still 4F/F. There was a solid K hardness layer of about 15-20cm on the ground at our location, which was interesting as I have not seen that in other locations. We did not see any faceting on the surface of the snow as has been developing elsewhere in our pit, but the snow lower in the bowl was showing signs of faceting.
