Started digging hand pits at the meadow on the ski up Beartrap. Found the facets easily, we were able to isolate columns in the handpits and separate the storm slab at the facet layer with light pressure. Same results in the several handpits we dug on the way up to the ridge. We dug a pit at 9600 feet on a northwest aspect and found 1F snow at the ground and a several ice crusts at 25cm, 42cm, and a light crust at 58cm. In between the crusts was all faceted. The storm slab was consolidated and we had an ECTP23 with the failure occuring at the storm/old interface as expected. The slab was 35cm thick. Certainly confirms what we expected to see and what has been reported over the past few days. I imagine this problem will be exacerbated with the new snow this week.
On the ridge we were seeing high winds moving snow from the south/southeast
