Comments
Skinned up through Catherine's area this morning. Below 9700 feet coverage is quite poor, snow depths below 20cm and sometimes lower. From around 9700 to 10000 coverage improves to around 40-50cm. Above 10200 ft coverage improves dramatically and is typically above 60cm. I noticed wind loading coming off the ridges (as forecasted in the bulletin from Friday) and also noticed dense (10-15cm thick) wind boards near the tops of ridges. I did not dig a pit, but I did a few hand shears and pole probes and noticed that the fresh snow from this weekend fell on a crusty layer about 10cm into the snow, this crust existed on most aspects that I tested except true North. Below the crusty layer is a beautiful right side up snowpack, but we are beginning to build layers in our early season snowpack
