Avalanche Problem #1
Problem
Normal Caution
Like walking through the door of a fine dining establishment in SLC, we were pleasantly SURPRISED by the coverage up in Collins Gulch today. As the storm finished off with a healthy serving of winds out of the East, upper elevation slopes showed signs of gentle crossloading which did a nice job filling in talus slopes and burying rocks and therefore improving early season ski conditions. It was easy to see a handful of loose snow avalanches that had peeled of mid storm. As we skinned around we also found at about 10400ft NNW that had slide very early in the storm and we could only tell it had slid due to the decrease in HS in the start zone. HS at 10300 on NNE in wind sheltered location was 45cm with drift up to 80cm in places. Otherwise not a whole lot to report about, but it sure was nice having a cold wintery bluebird day and some powder skiing to boot!
