Wanted to get a feel for how the new snow would bond to the old, icy layer. Answer? Not at all. Dropping off the true 10420 peak into the NE-facing trees, I unsurprisingly set the ridge splintering as the soft wind slab broke apart. What *was* surprising was how quick it all was to slide, even once I dropped into the trees. On anything steep (and it's over 31° in there), sluffs ran far and fast. I was playing with a few inches of new snow on top of a reasonably soft bottom layer: all of that new snow wanted to sprint down to Bloods.
Hopefully as the snow piles up today it will adhere better to the old snow, as last week's storm did. I'd be careful with terrain choices. Things I did last week in the new snow would be chancy today.
