Avalanche Problem #1
Problem
New Snow
Problem #1 Comments
New snow is skiing great on the north end, heavy snowfall around noon and continued most of the day. Really just gotta watch out for sloughing one this old (but still new) - new snow from this morning- today's interface. Still some type of crust under the new snow from recent high pressure I figure, winds were calm and slab development wasn't there. In the steepest section of our skinner which went over 30 at a rock face we did get a 1-2" slough to release when we kinda packed in a kick turn with our skis. Didn't move far but skiing the headwall produced decent sloughs in a steep pitch, watch out for this in complex terrain, and know how to manage it, luckily wasn't later in the day with double the snowfall. Still seems to be the only red flag, any increase in wind could form some more reactive slabs but for today slough was our main concern, especially when we had a point release trigger and run at us.
Comments
Skiings great on the north, severe dust on crust on the south and assuming other aspects.
