Comments
Made the trip out to Oquirrhs for early morning tour up to Flattop before the sun baked things. Found very little snow on the west to southwest aspects below 8500ft, and thick breakable crusts on those aspects (West) all the way up to the ridgeline above 9500. Northerly aspects still had soft powder with faceting/depth hoar at the bottom of the snowpack up to 30cm from the ground. Depth of snowpack on northerly aspects ranged from less than 80-90cm at 8000 ft to about 150cm at 10,000+ ft.
We dug 2 pits ranging from 115cm to 135cm deep- directly below the summit on the NW aspect and found ECTP 22- Q1 - failing on the faceted layer down at 30cm from ground and then had ECTX on second. Interestingly both pits were within 5 ft of eachother.
We skiied down the NW shoulder of Flattop and found good riding/snow through low angle meadows. Lots of warming, and evidence of activity (rollerballs, slides) on solar aspects occurring as we exited around 1pm.
