Comments
Wind loading all day, mostly from the west and southwest where we were skiing. Steady teens with regular gusts in the 20s, easily transporting snow. Moved enough along the ridge to completely hide some 16" skin tracks during one 45 minute lap (photo). On a NE facing 30 degree slope at 9,135', total depth of 125cm, with 48cm of dry sugar to the ground. Compared to two pits last weekend (NE at 8,750' and W at 8,960'), today's bottom layer seemed more dry and uncohesive. Fairly tricky digging pits with boot penetration to the ground. Step out of your skis and then try to dig yourself out.
Others in my group heard and felt a large collapse on very low angle NE face on our exit.
