I got a late start so I took a short hike to look at the north and easterly faces of Mount Aire. The visability was only fair. I couldn't see any fracture lines and all of the many aspects up there were still intact. I only made it to 7250 feet where I dug a quick pit on a 23 degreeNE facincing slope before I turned around. Approx 90 cm of snow. A compression test collapsed the rounding facets on the ground at 17. I need to qualify that the bottom part of my pit contain a little brush from the ground. It was quite warm and the surface snow was becoming quite damp on the bush bash skiing out. I'm sure the upper elevation slopes have much deeper snow and colder developed facets on the ground. People have been up there but look to have been skiing cautiously in the thick trees. We'll see what happens with some new snow and wind this weekend. I wouldn't trust any open slopes in this area.
