Avalanche Problem #1
Problem
Persistent Weak Layer
Problem #1 Comments
A couple observations from the last couple days. The mid-elevations have a very weak snowpack - but have been lacking a well connected slab. With heavy snow in the forecast, this will change. Would expect that they may not support much weight before avalanching. Upper elevations have a dangerous hard slab that has been well noted and well advertised. It has become more stubborn the last couple days, but it has not gone away at all (see photos below). These areas may support a bit more weight before avalanching, but will be large and destructive when they do.
Comments
Photos below show a couple avalanches produced during testing. One was triggered from the flats below the slope. Evidence that the problem has not gone away.
