Avalanche Problem #1
Problem
Persistent Weak Layer
Problem #1 Comments
Dug a quick pit on Tom's Hill today with the avalanche class. North facing, 9000 feet, HS140. Got an ECTP29 down 60cm on the surface hoar layer that has been mentioned here and there in the forecast. First time I have found this layer, which was exciting. Test results were very planar and popped right out into the pit. This makes we wonder how many of the recent natural and human triggered avalanches have been failing on this layer, which is likely distributed someone sporadically throughout the range.
Avalanche Problem #2
Problem
Wind Drifted Snow
Problem #2 Comments
Evidence of a recent (ish) avalanche on Reynolds Peak on the main face just below the ridge. Possibly naturally triggered during the Friday storm but quite filled in as of today. Hard to tell exactly how large/wide it broke out. Extension cornice growth on the Reynolds ridge as well.
