I'd be interested in others observations in this area because mine sure supposed me.
Test results:
CTV-Failed during isolation.
ECTV-Failed during isolation.
I expected this layer to be vulnerable, but did not expect it to be that reactive. Both failed on the old November facets near the ground.
Comments
Broken sky today. Warm but the sun never got out from behind the clouds enough to deteriorate the snow surface. On my way up there was widespread collapsing. Dug a few hand pits to try and find the weak layer, but never found it.
Found a good place to dig a pit and got my suprising results. The weak layer is buried fairly deep (>1 meter). But given the varying depth of the snowpack I'd imagine it wouldn't be hard to trigger this layer.
Terrain management is incredibly important over the next few days. And I'd imagine with any new storms this weak layer will produce more natural avalanches.
