Comments
South and west winds were drifting snow in the open terain and even into the trees. Wind was creating VERY sensitive soft slabs that were cracking on any slope that was steeper than 25 degrees. As you approached any small test slope it would crack and slide a few feet. The new snow was not bonded well to old surfaces and didn't seem to be settling at all during the day. In the sheltered trees the snow seemed to be much less slab like, but the top 6 inches of the snow was sluffing and running long distances. The winds were still moving snow and creating deeper drifts when we left around 2pm.
For tomorrow I am very conserned about wind drifted snow on all aspects at upper elevations.
