Comments
Went to upper Butler Fork today, still looking for low angle runs without tracks. There was plenty of collapsing and cracking breaking trail on the shady N, a few that made your heart skip a beat. In steep terrain the graupel has pooled at the bottoms of slopes, up to 4 ft deep in Scary Gully. Still avoiding steeper slopes on the N end of the compass, collapsing, cracking, recent avalanches and poor snowpack structure, not sure what other sort of information you need to be convinced that rolling the dice on steeper N, E and W is not worth the gamble but people continue to do it. The rash of skier triggered slides in the Canyons slack country should be taken seriously, I'm not one to make judgments on what people are skiing, I've made bad calls numerous times but at some point in time you gotta pull back and look at the whole picture, just because some people are getting away with it doesn't mean you will. I'll stick to just relaying conditions of the day from now on but I felt I needed to mention this.
