Dug a quick pit to see if we could observe some of the problems we've been reading in the forecast. Didn't do much formal testing, but we could clearly see the snowpack layers. Biggest problem we noticed was that the top ~1ft of snowpack was very cohesive and on top of a 2-3 in. thick weak, faceted layer. When we attempted to perform a column test the topmost cohesive layer toppled just from cutting out the column in preparation for the test. Tested the layer below to see if we could get collapse/propagation, got about CT25 on that part. There is another weak layer below this second cohesive layer with very hard, icy base under that; according to our test that deeper weak layer is not nearly as dangerous a problem as the one higher up.
During travel today we and another group noticed some minor cracking and "whoomfing."
