Comments
Travel today was up Mill D to Little Water then a few laps near Shangri La. I wanted to see what the N facing terrain looked like and check out the coverage in lower BCC. I had a look at Fire Water and thought it looked wind-loaded and slabby so walked down the ridge for some low angle pow in the trees.
Weather was beautiful and calm, couldn’t have asked for a less windy day. Temps were cold but some snow was damp in the afternoon on S aspects even above 9,000’.
I dug a quit pit around 8,800 feet after my first run, N aspect, and made the following observations:
Near surface facets within the top 10 cm of snowpack were forming. Facets at the bottom of the snowpack looked more connected than last week but still don’t trust the structure. Temp at 15 cm was -4 and -8 at 45 cm. Doesn’t seem like any healing is going on and we need more snow.
