Cruised up Cardiff today and found some great snow in the upper reaches of the drainage. The snow was falling moderate-heavy. Winds were very light. We dug a quick pit at 10,000' on almost direct N, and found 25cm of storm snow on top of 65cm of existing snow. The storm snow was very low density, and fell on some sort of crust that had formed at the top of the faceted layer. Everything below the crust was completely faceted, surprise! The grains were pretty big and I could see them with naked eye well on my glove. We did a column and got CTE-3. An extended was ECTN-5 at 65cm height. Both were maybe Q2 but I don't really know how to judge that. Sluffing was the only concern we had on the way down but once this new snow consolidates it might be scary! There are tons of rocks stumps and other sharks that are still biting. I got a free grind from the rocks along the ski out. This storm did a great job of barely covering rocks and fallen trees, a few took me by surprise.
