Comments
Went for a quick walk to see how the snowpack is evolving with recent warm, sunny days and clear, cold nights. As expected, there is plenty of faceting (aka weakening) occurring and it is happening a lot faster in places with thinner snow. The spot where I dug, with only about a foot of snow, may not be totally representative for Grizzly Gulch, BUT it is representative of many many other places where the snowpack is generally only a foot deep or less.
I am curious to see if the new 2-3 inches of snow will facet in coming days/weeks. It is sitting on top of a hard crust on most slopes.
Hitting rocks is definitely the main hazard for now.
