Snow Characteristics Comments
Snow showers added up to about 2 inches above 10000ft, big wet flakes dampening the underlying snow. Pretty good refreeze last night, frozen up tight at the trailhead and softening slowing due to cloud cover.
Comments
Started out the day thinking corn but the weather wasn't cooperating so I decided to go high, walked to the very back of the drainage past the lake to the headwall of White Pine. The snow above 10000ft on the due north still was dry under a thin breakable crust, but that all changed in the afternoon with warm temperatures and a couple inches of damp new snow. I was getting some collapsing on the high north but it seemed fairly localized. Once I got below 10000ft the going was slow due to wet new snow on the old surface. The only activity noted was point releases and roller balling of the new snow. Travel became easier under 9000ft because it rained at that elevation instead of damp snow.
photos: wet activity up high, and new snow depth around 10800ft
