Wanted to submit some general obs and thoughts on what I found within the current structure today, as it was a pretty active day out there.
I spent the morning hours skiing in the Draw, less load than higher in the drainage and less wind, given it was still snowing at the time was the plan. Expericienced some sluffing in predictable zones, nothing that alarming. On the second run, I ski cut the steep NE side and got some good results with large cracks but not enough to bring a ton of snow down - perhaps because not enough wind to create a bigger load. The snowpack around this elevation was under 30cm, it had a density change from yesterday's warmth under it, then a bit of facets near the slick crust.
When I began traveling higher up the drainage I quickly realized that the snowpack issues I had seen around the Draw were neglibable to what was happening higher. I experienced several widespread collapses while skinning up the lower angle aprons in Banana Days. To which I dug down a bit to see what was going on. At 10K on a NE slope, I found a similar snowpack, but what was different - and probably what was causing the collapsing was a break below the heat crust. Below the heat crust was a layer of facets and some graupel.
Perahps this layer is the cause of massive connected slide in Main Days... Either way, I avoided most start zones in the Banana trees and even on one slope it took 3 different ski cuts to finally get it to release. Point being, it's tricky. The small slides runing on the crust are relativy easy to decipher, but if one were to get into bigger terrain (N/NE) popping one of these slides off that breaks below the crust will not be a good time.
Photos below are of the hasty pit, the crust that the snowpack is breaking below, facets and graupel underneat the crust, some point slides from the rocks in Banana, and a shot of the Main Days slide from across the ridge.
