Snow Characteristics Comments
Starting at a elevation of around 6000ft and climbing to a elevation of 10,300ft revealed a few different surface snow conditions. Started out in the dirt, then a melt freeze crust up the Bowman Trail, as well as to the top of Yellow Jacket, then either dry snow capped with a thin melt-freeze crust or just a skiff or dry snow on top of Gobblers.
Comments
I did my first run around noon on the Cabin Run, the top half was still frozen and the lower half was starting to soften. Then went up to the top of Gobblers for a look around, noted wet avalanches on the Blue Ice, Bonkers and Stairs which I put on the avy page. The S face of Raymond was also covered with wet activity, and the cornices hanging over Alexander Basin are massive and drooping. I skied Gobblers around 1:30 and it had softened up nicely, more like skiing in snow cone snow, than manky powder or damp snow. I think I read an ob from yesterday day stating that the skiing would be not good today but you would be surprised what a cold clear night with low relative humidity will do.
photos: wet activity on the S face of Raymond, cornices hanging over Deapth Hoar Bowl, and pretty decent skiing on Gobblers
Thinking moderate for wet activity tomorrow, if it's cloudy and colder tomorrow low if not moderate
