Location Name or Route
Main Porter Fork
Avalanche Problem #1
Problem
New Snow
Problem #1 Comments
Dry loose naturals were observed off the ice box face and easily triggered by skis on steeper slopes. These ran easily on the thermal crust.
Comments
At 9500' 8"-10" of low density snow has fallen on a thin layer of graupel covering a supportable thermal crust. In porter fork the snow fell straight down and winds were calm all morning. No transport at the ridgelines was observed, but there's a lot of snow available if the winds pick up. Below 8000' conditions were moister. Up high the new snow made for good skiing. If the sun comes I think we'll see an active wet cycle.
