Party of three went for a tour along Pink Pine Ridge. New snow was dense but generally supportable. Elevation was our friend as the amount of new snow increased as we gained elevation. The crusty/firm underlayer was definitely more in play at the lower elevations. Temps were on the warm side with the morning started out with lingering snow that slowly cleared by late morning. The sun made some brief appearances with little-to-no wind in the lower White Pine drainage.
Some sluffing in the new snow was observed in the steeper portions of the east-facing shots along the ridge. Generally the sluffs ran 50-100' and entrained more snow as they ran, but were easily mitigated and never gained enough steam to be a huge concern. Definitely wouldn't want to be caught underneath one, especially in some of the small terrain traps, however. Minimal wind loading was observed along the more protected portions of the ridge, below Rainbow Peak.
Lower angle terrain was riding the best as the new snow was surfy and fast. Yet another excellent day to be out in the mountains.
