Snow Characteristics Comments
Some wind exposed locations stripped to the February 7 crust. Most terrain featured heavy snow of one kind or another. Ripples and waves in wind affected terrain showed signs of heat with drooping edges. Creamy turns were still a viable option in sheltered north facing terrain, but definitely took a hit from the warmer temps.
Red Flags
Red Flags Comments
Nothing particularly noteworthy. Did see yesterday's wet loose on the steep southerlies, but cloud cover was sufficient to see no new slides today.
Comments
Got a pocket of wind slab to break out on a 40 degree SE facing slope around 8300ft on the old crust. However, as evidenced by the (admittedly poor quality) photo, it didn't go anywhere.
Found varying amounts of old facets below the new snow, with the crust decomposing significantly in many locations. On some northerlies above 8000ft the new snow sat atop 45cm of sugar. However, hand pits didn't have clean or easy breaks and test slopes weren't reactive.
