Comments
Walking up Braods Fork the ice/rime crust went from impenetrable to penetrable but never disappeared. Cold start to the morning pockets of frigid air in places, clear skies in the A.M., little to no wind.
Minimal snow on top of the crust made travel quick and easy. Many of the usual suspect had slid in the bonkers diving board area on the last natural cycle a few days ago. skiing was better higher and the lower angle the slope. Dug in to the snow at 10k East facing to see what the last few storms had done to the snow pack.
Snow Depth was 220cm, rain crust broke on isolation, below the rain crust there were a few minor density inversions, shovel shears were medium to hard in the top 20 inches.
Did an ECT and the rain crust again broke away immediately, below that ECT n 23 40cm down on a thin layer of facets. All in all snow seemed pretty locked up below the crusty but it could very well become the weak layer when more snow start to fall.
