Problem #1 Comments
3" of dense new snow was sliding on the low density old snow (monday storm) interface. On north aspects, the old snow surface had started to facet in the cold weather. Abundant shooting cracks were noted on the ascent at this interface and were propagating long distances (up to 50 ft). Essentially every undisturbed slope we touched over 30 degrees slid with a hair trigger. The shallow slides did not pack enough of a punch to sweep you off your feet in open terrain. I suspect this is already changing and would not return to the same slopes later today. Almost all steep slopes that had been wind loaded shed their snow naturally. We transitioned at 8400 ft and the skiing was excellent despite being somewhat upside down.
