Comments
Today was a spectacular day in the hills. Things started out cold with low visibility lower elevations from the Nobletts trailhead, where about 3" of storm snow lay. Moving towards mill hollow, visibility increased with time and elevation gain. At 1100 around 9000' we gained the Deuschene ridge and skies began to part. By 1200 we made our way to Heber Mountain where we continued to travel and enjoy 5-Star riding conditions. Temps were in the single digits, keeping the snow surface powder as the sun shined for the majority of the day.
Opened meadows and pieces of terrain saw the worst of the winds, and is evident in some of the images following. Cracking in front of our ski tips and wind-drifted snow were noted, two obvious red flags. Although some riders decided to hang it out there and ride larger slopes, the crew and myself decided to stick to low angle sheltered terrain. Conditions were so good in safe-terrain, we felt no need to hang it out there -- plenty of season left-ahead.
