Student observations. Wind skins became stiff by end of day with cracking under skis. Dense wind slabs in isolated pockets. Very hard to travel above 9500’ without encountering large wind slabs on all aspects. Small wind loaded pockets were reactive to ski cuts running on old snow interface.
New snow point releases observed in upper Dutch’s Draw during am hours.
The group encountered poor snow structure observed on NE aspect at 9543’. HS143cm. Pencil hard slab above fist hard moist facets from19cm to the ground. CTM, ECTX, Rutschblock test unreactive. After test we even tried 10 people jumping on with no action. Just some puzzled smiles.
We visited a SE aspect in wind sheltered terrain at 9540’. HS75cm. CTN. Right side up with no notable weak layers.
Good bouncy powder in wind sheltered low angle terrain.
