Comments
I found 8 inches up in the Uintas today. The wind has moved the snow around somewhat with a cornices starting to build from sustained west and northwest winds. The new snow is has some good moisture in it so it's bonding well to the old snow. Today my concern was newly formed wind slabs which I found as thick as 2 feet and overloading of the snowpack on the basal facets. With only 8 inches new snow the latter was less of a concern. I kicked this thin cornice on the east side of the ridge and as you can see the new snow has too much cohesion to slide down the slope. With only 8 inches of snow I felt the danger rating was Moderate today but if an 1 inch of water is added tonight and tomorrow that could be enough to activate our weak layer so Considerable tomorrow.

Today's Observed Danger Rating
Moderate
