Problem #1 Comments
Toured up Pink Pine Ridge from the White Pine trailhead and descended down the Red Right Returning run at approximately 930AM. Observed consistent new snow sluffing at the upper elevations each about 6” deep. These were manageable but careful terrain and sluff management are key as these could surprise you and take you off your feet if you’re not alert. New snow is dense and poorly bonded to old snow. Picture and video below are from between 9000-9200ft.
Comments
Snow/rain mix was present at the trailhead and continued until about 8000ft. Snow was enjoyable up at the higher elevations, but as I said earlier it very poorly bonded to old snow. As I got down below 9000ft on my descent snow became noticeably wet and heavy. Mashed potatoes for sure. Sluff management needed at higher elevations.
